Your role

R&D Sterility Assurance and Microbial Sciences team has an exciting Microbial Engineer opportunity to start your career.  You will work with a growing, high energy, knowledgeable team and work on R&D projects including innovation and new product development activities.  This could also be an opportunity to develop your career through engagement with other functions such as Manufacturing, Quality and other R&D locations.

The Microbial Engineer will report to the Hechingen, Germany Micro Laboratory Team Leader and be responsible for performing daily laboratory testing activities, both working with external contract testing labs and internal laboratory work.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting microbiology testing in areas such as bioburden, filter testing and endotoxin experiments

  • Support Team Leader to maintain laboratory operations, including maintaining laboratory safety, improving operations and maintaining equipment

  • Assure laboratory and documentation is audit ready and team can effectively response to auditor inquiries

  • Assure appropriate investigations are conducted on laboratory failures and out of specifications

  • Assure the use of appropriate standards in laboratory testing

  • Supporting R&D project through input on laboratory testing needs or the use of existing data to support products.

  • Devising new directions to sophisticated problems through adaptations and modifications of standard technical principles

  • Where vital implement new procedures to support the testing of Vantive products

  • Assuring all work follows Vantive’s Quality system and cGDP/cGMP practices

  • Providing regular updates to Sterility Assurance and Microbial Sciences management

  • Work with product development teams, product design owners, contract testing laboratories and manufacturing QA/QC laboratory personnel to complete required tasks

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or related field

  • 3 years of related microbiology experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team of laboratory personnel, including ability to train and develop laboratory personnel

  • Experience managing multiple simultaneous projects and work activities

  • Knowledge of GDP/GMP/GLP practices.

  • Must be able to provide solutions that reflect understanding business objectives and cost implications

  • Excellent English and good German language skills

Desired Skills

  • Experience in various microbiology methods

  • Display a basic understanding of theories/practices applied by other disciplines outside primary area of expertise.

  • Knowledge of medical device and/or pharmaceutical industry

  • Knowledge of sterilization (e.g. moist heat/steam or radiation sterilization) is desirable
