Summary:

Manages a diverse team of scientists that specialize in analytical chemistry, materials science and materials characterization to support global product development activities, sustaining product operations, and failure analysis/materials characterization activities. Utilizes solid understanding of theories and practices of a variety of disciplines to manage complex projects or programs within boundaries of quality, time and budget. Based on significant expertise in materials, polymers, chemistry and materials characterization, designs, reviews and/or approves complex study design concepts or assessments and provides general directions to staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This section contains a list of five to eight primary responsibilities of the work. The incumbent will perform other duties as assigned.

  • Lead Materials India team within Global Sciences - ELMAT R&D. The team will provide technical expertise to R&D teams and manufacturing sites as & when needed/requested.

  • Manage the laboratory that will be used to carry out the compendial testing of materials, and lead compendial testing activities of materials.

  • Work closely with global Analytical Chemistry & Stability (AC&S) and Biocompatibility, Extractables & Leachables  team members within Global Sciences R&D to define scope of work on projects as well as define & execute global strategy for talent development, capability & capacity for AC&S and BELMAT organizations.

  • Effectively hire, coach, mentor and motivate others for outstanding performance.

  • Define and communicate criteria by which team and individual success will be measured. Provide constructive feedback and recognition.

  • Provide leadership to team members, guiding them in terms of prioritization, problem resolution, process clarification, referrals to appropriate experts, etc.

  • Solve problems expeditiously using multiple disciplines and technical principles.

  • Work collaboratively and effectively with other global analytical chemistry, materials science and microscopy/particle analysis leads.

  • Develop effective project schedules and manage project budgets for internal and external activities, as required. Employ project management tools to manage those project schedules.

  • Review and apply best-demonstrated practices, team processes, and improve operational efficiency. Seek regular input and feedback from requestors and take appropriate action. Identify and initiate discussion of key business issues affecting the project.

  • Proactively prioritize and balance utilization of resources allocated to project; identify opportunities to cross-train and backfill. Develop recommendations for outside resources as required for the team/project, present internal vs. external analysis.

  • Attend project review and core team meetings, as necessary.

  • Build a professional network both internally within the R&D organization, and outside of Vantive.

  • Maintain knowledge of relevant Quality System Regulations and safety requirements while building knowledge of other regulatory requirements related to R&D (product development, design, safety) to ensure compliance in all research, data collection and reporting activities.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

1. Knowledgeable in Chemistry, Materials science, Polymers, Materials Characterization or related disciplines.

2. Must demonstrate strategic leadership and proficient supervisory skills.

3. Capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative approach as well as using effective project management tools.

4. Ability to oversee and implement projects/studies outside area of expertise.

5. Display ability to communicate effectively using a wide variety of skills and vehicles and to various audiences including senior management.

6. Ability to manage multiple cross functional teams simultaneously

Education and/or Experience:

Include the education and/or experience that is necessary to perform the job satisfactorily.

Ph.D. in relevant field (Analytical or Pharmaceutical Chemistry/Pharmaceutical analysis or Materials science) with 10+ years of professional experience OR Masters with 15+ years of experience in the relevant field mentioned above.
