Summary
This position may be responsible for leading EHSS function by developing, Implementing and maintaining the EHS management system policies, procedures and records as per Vantive requirements. The successful candidate would apply sound EHS knowledge and experience in problem solving, engage in cross-functional departments of R&D site to implement EHS systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities. This section contains a list of primary responsibilities of the work. The incumbent will perform other duties as assigned.
Develop, implement , setting up the EHS requirements, identifying the business needs of EHS functions and establishing as per organization requirements.
EHS training to all new joiners & visitors .
Set up Global EHS policy at site level entry safety requirements (visitors, vendors).
Compliance management -Assessing the business activities and identifying the legal requirements.
Monitoring of legal requirement and update as required on monthly basis
Identify and apply/ obtain legal permissions as per the changes at facility to ensure Safety and environmental local laws are complied.
Maintenance of monthly legal register & ensuring that Lex comply tool is updated as on require.
SOPs -Need to identify the required SOPs for smooth operation of EHS systems
Develop local SOPs in line with local regulations and Baxter EHS guidelines (requirement book)
Review the developed SOPs with Quality team and line managers and get approval
Own and implement EHS document management system.
Train the target group employees, Virtual and classroom training.
Review and record the required logs as mentioned in SOP annexures.
Safety inspections - Train lab and area in charges on Safety requirements,
Get nominations from each lab for EHS coordinators and train them
Schedule frequent EHS inspections along with EHS coordinators / Lab area owners and identify unsafe conditions and acts
Monitor the EHS inspections conducted and review the defied points with lab managers
Work with lab EHS coordinators and implement safety practices for establishing safe workplace.
Incident management system -CAPs
Develop procedure for incident reporting and management system
Get trained on using EHS Dashboard for reporting unsafe conditions/ acts and incidents
Train all employees in reporting incidents and track them
Conduct detailed investigation into the incident and share the safety alert including CAPA with site and EHS leaders if incident is recordable
Implement CAPA for incidents and develop controls to avoid the recurrence
Report number incident as part of monthly dashboard for management meeting
Training - Develop the training calendar and plan the training sessions with target group
Develop and assess the training modules required for lab or users and upload them to training tools and implement on time.
Training the employees in Emergency preparedness and response.
Develop ERT teams and train them on EPR procedures, fire safety systems usage and operation (Firefighting and first aid)
Chemical management system -Assess the chemicals required for business and maintain the inventory of chemicals for each site.
Establish a chemical management system for procuring, assessing, and approving chemicals before getting into site.
Review each MSDS and assess the risk associated with use of chemical and train employees accordingly. Maintain MSDS file
Vantive EHS&S requirements - Ensuring the compliance requirements w.r.t. KSPCB, EPR, Factories act and Indian labor laws of Health and Safety
Work with global EHS teams to implement EHS systems and seek support as on when required.
Implement global reporting system listed below
Gensuite - training & chemical inventory management
Industrial hygiene assessment - implementing controls
Safety alert communication and training
Participating in Global EHS workshops and sharing knowledge, develop new risk controls for managing the risks.
Monitoring and measurement - Monitor the leading and lagging indicators or site and set site goals.
Assess the requirement of utility infrastructure for proper measuring of environmental indicators like Energy, water, ODC, CO2 emissions.
Set the site goals in line with Baxter global guidelines.
Monitor / train the site utility team on managing , recording and reporting of energy parameters.
Work permit system - Develop and implement work permit system
Train technicians on safe work practices, instrument checking, assessing job safety during implementation of work permit system including safe LOTO.
Risk Assessment - Develop site level Risk assessment tool (HIRA- Activity based RA)
Train the employees on assessing risk and identifying the hazard
Assess the Risks associated with each activity and review the controls.
Develop the new control measures for high risk and train the employees on implementing controls.
Based on the risk assessment conduct occupational risk exposure assessment /Industrial hygiene assessment and develop the controls with help of engineering/projects team by modifying / implementing new controls in place
Emergency safety equipment - Ensure that all the emergency safety equipment is in good working conditions
Frequent checking for good function of equipment
Conduct mock drills with different scenarios
Train facility management team& security team on emergency response.
Monitor the regular logs of emergency safety equipment functions like alarms/ faults/ repairs etc.
Qualifications. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Below list of knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
Experience with EHSS systems implementations for R&D Operation.
Good knowledge of EHSS legal requirements in Local, national and international laws.
A good understanding of Research and development organization activities relevant to EHSS compliance management system.
Hands on experience in conducting Risk assessments, impact assessments, failure mode analysis and other hazard assessment techniques.
Familiarity and hands-on experience with Gensuite- Benchmark, Enablon, EHS-SAP or similar tools of EHSS dashboard.
Knowledge on sustainability reporting parameters and structures.
Ability to learn quickly and to solve problems in a timely manner using cross functional discussions and group discussion skills.
Possess relevant writing and computer skills.
Ability to organize, assess and communicate complex information that engages the audience.
Ability to make decisions when provided with limited information and to make routine decisions independently.
Ability to develop, write and implement EHSS related programs as per organizational requirements.
Experience of working in global cross-functional teams and project management is a plus
Familiar with Quality management systems, Analytical chemistry operations & Medical device testing and validation safety requirements.
Ability to adapt to changes and to work in a team environment.
Ability to identify and solve technical issues to improve safety at workplace.
Education and/or Experience: Include the education and/or experience that is necessary to perform the job satisfactorily.
Bachelor’s / master’s degree in relevant engineering or science discipline (Industrial Safety, Environmental sciences) with 12+ years’ experience or advanced degree with EHS certifications.
