An EHS Professional leads and manages environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs across business units, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies. They serve as strategic advisors and educators, driving continuous improvement through risk assessments, incident investigations, and performance monitoring. Their role also includes stakeholder engagement, employee training, and promoting a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a consultant, coordinator, manager, educator, planner, and monitor of the EHS&S Management System, covering environmental, industrial hygiene, occupational health, safety, and sustainability.
  • Interpret and apply company and regulatory requirements across business unit facilities; conduct compliance reviews and develop action plans with follow-up.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of EHS&S reports and notifications; track and report progress on EHS&S plans.
  • Identify and report significant legal and technical EHS issues; define and implement corrective action plans.
  • Collaborate with business managers to improve EHS knowledge, performance, and awareness through updates, trend analysis, and improvement strategies.
  • Develop and implement targeted safety initiatives for service specialists to drive continuous improvement in EHSS performance.
  • Support investigations and fact-gathering related to employee injuries, illnesses, litigation, and enforcement actions.
  • Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of EHS incidents; provide insights and recommendations to guide EHSS strategy.
  • Deliver EHS training and awareness programs to non-EHS professionals, contractors, and visitors.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement controls to mitigate EHSS risks; lead Gemba inspections, internal audits, alerts, campaigns, and communications.
  • Coordinate with business units to address customer EHS concerns; analyze needs and monitor timely responses.
  • Identify, document, and share EHSS best practices across the organization.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and report on EHS metrics and performance indicators.
  • Manage and follow up on the EHS budget and resource allocation.
  • Implement and maintain operating policies, procedures, and EHS documentation (e.g., contracts, hazardous product registers, permits, safety data sheets).

Qualifications

  • Strong strategic planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
  • Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Business acumen, especially within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Solid management and administrative capabilities.
  • Effective training and presentation skills.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science/engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, nursing, or related technical field (preferred).
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technician certification (if not an engineer).
  • Active registration with the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE).
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency in English.
  • 5–7 years of EHS&S experience, with at least 3 years in a business or manufacturing setting.
  • Participation in EHS&S audits.
  • 2–3 years of sustainability experience (desirable).
  • Certifications in ISO, OHSAS, firefighting, emergency brigades, first aid, or equivalent training.
  • Familiarity with local regulations (e.g., Corpo de Bombeiros, CETESB, IBAMA, Previdência Social, e-social).
