Your Role:
Our PrisMax systems are used in intensive care units worldwide to support critically ill patients experiencing acute kidney injury and other conditions requiring continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). As an Engineer I on the Embedded Software team, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of software that powers these life-sustaining systems.
Working alongside experienced software, systems, electrical, quality, cybersecurity, and verification engineers, you will help design, implement, test, and maintain embedded software solutions throughout the product lifecycle. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career engineer seeking hands-on experience developing software for regulated medical devices.
What You'll Be Doing:
· Design, implement, and maintain embedded software features and enhancements for the PrisMax platform.
· Support software development activities from requirements through implementation, integration, verification, release, and sustaining engineering.
· Participate in software architecture discussions, design reviews, and code reviews.
· Develop unit tests and support automated testing initiatives.
· Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects using structured root cause analysis techniques.
· Collaborate with systems engineers to understand product requirements and maintain traceability between requirements, design, implementation, and testing.
· Support risk management activities including hazard analysis and software-related mitigations.
· Assist with software verification and validation activities in compliance with medical device regulations and standards.
· Work closely with electrical and systems engineering teams to diagnose hardware/software integration issues.
· Contribute to cybersecurity, reliability, and performance improvements across the platform.
· Support design history file (DHF) documentation and engineering deliverables required within a regulated development environment.
· Participate in Agile planning, estimation, and sprint execution activities.
What You'll Bring:
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
· 0- 2+ years of engineering experience, including internships, co-ops, or academic projects.
· Proficiency in C++ and/or C.
· Understanding of embedded software fundamentals including: Real-time systems Microcontrollers and processors Hardware/software interfaces Debugging techniques Communication protocols
· Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with RTOS-based development or embedded Linux.
· Familiarity with ARM-based processors and embedded development tools.
· Exposure to communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB, or Ethernet.
· Experience with Git and modern software development workflows.
· Knowledge of Python or scripting languages used for test automation.
· Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD concepts.
· Understanding of cybersecurity concepts for connected medical devices.
· Exposure to regulated industries such as medical devices, aerospace, automotive, or industrial controls.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Vantive, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $76,000 to $104,500 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
