Summary:

This Research Associate role will primarily consist of the execution of laboratory/experimental studies for existing products and new product development projects across Vantive’s product portfolio – by applying microscopic and analytical/spectroscopic techniques (FTIR, SEM/EDXS, light microscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, MFI, Tensile Tester, TOC etc.). The analytical work includes (and is not limited to) materials characterization, failure analysis, unknown identification, new method development/validation and experimental studies as needed. Additional activities will include partnering with internal stakeholders, communicating with global teams for new study directions and results of existing work, and ownership of laboratory instruments and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute experiments using a scientific approach (or a forensic approach in case of failure analysis) with limited guidance.

  • Communicate experimental plans with alignment to strategic objectives, follow up with execution and summary to management and internal partners.

  • Partners with colleagues in matters of microscopy, materials characterization, particulate matter analysis, and spectroscopic analyses.

  • Devise new approaches to solve routine and non-routine problems using analytical chemistry and microscopy techniques.

  • Demonstrate the ability to apply technical theories and principles to projects within the area of expertise for non-routine tasks. Employ appropriate techniques/methods to execute assignments successfully and independently within negotiated deadlines.

  • Analyze and determine best solutions to non-routine experimental design or research problems with minimal assistance in area of responsibility. Accurately assess results for validity and conformance to specifications.

  • Identify alternative methods and technologies for improving existing or new products/processes.

  • Contribute to technical feasibility analysis of complex research and design concepts.

  • Document results in laboratory notebooks/ELN according to established GDP procedures.

  • Write comprehensive protocols and reports.

  • Create and update equipment SOP’s and analytical procedures, participate in ordering raw materials, analytical materials or equipment.

  • Equipment qualification as per Vantive QMS- Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ) and Performance Qualification (PQ).

  • Maintain knowledge of relevant Quality System Regulations and safety requirements while building knowledge of other regulatory requirements related to R&D (product development, design and safety) to ensure compliance in all research, data collection and reporting activities.

Qualifications/skills:

  • Hands-on experience in materials characterization techniques such as SEM/EDXS, FTIR, stereomicroscopy, polarized light microscopy, tensile testing, MFI, etc.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Ability to effectively contribute as an integral member of a project team.

  • Ability to objectively assess, organize, and clearly communicate information.

  • Ability to interpret available information and make recommendations to resolve technical challenges.

  • Ability to appropriately prioritize work assigned to meet project deliverables in a timely manner.

  • Demonstrate inclusive attitude, collaborate with team members and cross-functional teams for project deliverables.

  • Contribute to efforts beyond own scope of responsibilities to ensure project milestones are met.

  • Provide and accept critical feedback from others in a constructive manner.

Education and/or Experience:

Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant professional experience, or Ph.D. with equivalent professional experience. Degree in Physical Sciences is required (Materials Science and Engineering or Polymer Science/Chemistry)
