Your role at Vantive

The Associate Director of Compensation Programs, Accrued Liabilities/OPEX, and Prepaids is responsible for executing and improving the accounting, reporting, controls, and governance framework supporting Vantive’s compensation-related accounting activities, global and regional accrued and other liabilities, and select prepaid expense processes. The role oversees compensation program accruals, equity awards in partnership with TAG, restructuring-related compensation costs, annual bonus accruals, long-term incentive cash programs, pension and postretirement benefits, payroll-related accruals, and other employee-related liabilities.  The role also encompasses ownership over global and regional accrued and other liabilities, including R&D related accounting, and select prepaid expenses and related prepaid assets. Reporting to one of our operational controllers, this leader partners with Total Rewards, TAG, HR, FP&A, Legal, Tax, Treasury, Shared Services, External Audit, and Systems teams to support a scalable, compliant, and well-controlled compensation, liabilities, and prepaid expense and related asset accounting environment.

Scope and Strategic Remit

  • Lead the global accounting function for compensation programs, accrued and other liabilities, including R&D related accounting matters,  employee-related liabilities, and selected prepaid expense processes, including accounting policy execution, close processes, journal entries, reconciliations, controls, reporting analytics, and audit support.

  • Execute the 1-3 year roadmap for compensation accounting capability, including operating model improvements, ERP, HRIS, payroll, equity administration and BlackLine integration, data quality, process automation and standardization, talent model, and control maturity.

  • Support accounting governance for equity awards, annual bonus accruals, long-term incentive cash programs, restructuring-related compensation costs, pension and postretirement benefits, payroll-related accruals, severance and retention programs, and related prepaid or deferred cost activity.

  • Manage performance and delivery for compensation accounting, liabilities, and select prepaid processes, with accountability for timeliness, accuracy, control effectiveness, stakeholder experience, and issue resolution within the assigned scope.

  • Lead senior professionals and shared service partners supporting compensation accounting operations, accruals, reconciliations, selected prepaid activities, and related reporting processes.

What you'll be doing

Accounting Strategy and Governance

  • Manage the compensation, liabilities and prepaid asset accounting operating models, including end-to-end process ownership and related T-account process flow mapping, approval thresholds, close activities, control points, service levels, and escalation routines.

  • Translate Total Rewards, TAG, HR, and corporate accounting requirements into functional plans that strengthen data integrity, reporting quality, controls, and scalability over the short to mid term.

  • Develop accounting playbooks for significant compensation programs and estimates, including equity awards, annual bonus accruals, long-term incentive cash, restructuring programs, severance, retention, pension and postretirement benefits, payroll-related accruals, and related prepaid or deferred costs.

  • Partner with Total Rewards, TAG, HR, FP&A, Legal, Tax, regional controllership, and shared services to review planned programs, accounting impacts, estimate methodology, data handoffs, and execution risks.

Close, Reporting, and Technical Accounting Execution

  • Oversee month-end and quarter-end close activities for compensation programs, accruals, and selected prepaid expenses, ensuring accurate journal entries, account reconciliations, analytics, disclosures support, and management reporting.  This includes maintaining best-in-class job aid and end-to-end accounting process flow documentation to ensure consistently reliable and accurate accounting close results.

  • Ensure appropriate accounting treatment for equity awards, bonus and incentive compensation, restructuring-related compensation costs, payroll-related liabilities, pension and postretirement benefits, prepaid expenses, and related balance sheet and income statement activity.

  • Partner with Technical Accounting to evaluate complex or non-routine matters and document accounting conclusions, judgments, estimates, and controls.

  • Provide timely analysis of accounting results, accrual trends, estimate changes, prepaid activity, unusual movements, and balance sheet impacts to controllership, HR, Total Rewards, TAG, and FP&A leadership.

Controls, Audit, and Risk Management

  • Own SOX-aligned controls for compensation accounting, liabilities and select prepaid processes, including journal entry review, reconciliation quality, estimate governance, data validation, segregation of duties, and system interface controls.

  • Coordinate external audit requests related to compensation programs, accruals, prepaids, pension and postretirement benefits, and other employee-related liabilities, including PBC ownership, support quality, issue resolution, and follow-up actions.

  • Identify and resolve control gaps, recurring reconciliation issues, data quality defects, estimate inconsistencies, and process handoff risks across HR, Total Rewards, TAG, Accounting, Shared Services, FP&A, and IT.

  • Maintain clear governance over manual adjustments, recurring entries, estimates, actuarial and third-party inputs, compensation plan data, BlackLine reconciliations, system interfaces, prepaid amortization schedules, and account ownership to reduce risk and improve close discipline.

Systems, Automation, and Data Quality

  • Partner with HR, Total Rewards, TAG, FP&A, Shared Services, and IT to improve integration among HRIS, equity administration, payroll, Coupa, ERP, BlackLine, consolidation tools, and reporting dashboards.

  • Lead automation, standardization, and simplification efforts related to bonus and incentive accruals, equity compensation accounting, restructuring accruals, general liabilities, prepaid capitalization and related amortization, payroll-related accruals, BlackLine account reconciliations, third-party data feeds, and close analytics.

  • Define data ownership and quality routines for compensation plan data, employee eligibility populations, cost center and legal entity mappings, payroll and HRIS interfaces, actuarial inputs, equity award data, prepaid schedules, and reporting hierarchies.  Provide feedback on Coupa expense processing taxonomy, mapping, and user interface/accrual process to aid in accurate and efficient general accrued liabilities processes.

  • Support system implementations, compensation program changes, restructuring activities, acquisitions, divestitures, or legal entity changes by ensuring accounting, reporting, data, BlackLine, and control requirements are built into the design.

Business Partnership and Influence

  • Advise finance and HR stakeholders on accounting, reporting, estimate, and control implications of compensation program design, workforce actions, restructuring plans, incentive programs, pension and postretirement activity, and prepaid expense policies.

  • Influence Total Rewards, TAG, HR, FP&A, Legal, Tax, regional leaders, and shared services to adopt standard accounting processes, clear data handoffs, and consistent controls when priorities or local practices differ.

  • Provide clear updates to Corporate Accounting leadership, HR, Total Rewards, TAG, and FP&A stakeholders on compensation accounting performance, risks, estimates, and improvement priorities.

  • Insert accounting voice into Coupa general accrued liabilities tool and related mapping to ensure accuracy, simplification, and standardization.

Leadership Expectations

  • Build, develop, and retain a team with strong and efficient accounting capability, clear ownership, strong controls mindset, and practical business judgment.

  • Lead senior professionals and shared service partners by setting clear priorities, reinforcing process discipline, and developing future controllership talent.

  • Create a culture of accuracy, accountability, partnership, transparency, and continuous improvement across Compensation, HR, TAG, FP&A, Accounting, and Shared Services handoffs.

  • Operate as a trusted accounting partner who can balance technical accounting precision with business needs, competing timelines, and public company control expectations.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification strongly preferred.

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting, controllership, compensation accounting, technical accounting, audit, or financial reporting experience in a complex global company.
