Your role at Vantive
The Associate Director of Revenue and Accounts Receivable Accounting is responsible for the accounting, reporting, controls, and governance framework supporting Vantive’s global revenue and accounts receivable activities. The role oversees revenue recognition, gross-to-net activity, accounts receivable, reserves, deductions, deferred revenue, and related close processes. Reporting to one of the operational accounting controllers, this leader partners across Commercial Finance, Customer Operations, Tax, FP&A, Legal, Regional Controllership, Shared Services, External Audit, and Systems teams to maintain a globally consistent, scalable, compliant, and well-controlled revenue and A/R accounting environment.
Scope and Strategic Remit
Lead the global revenue and accounts receivable accounting function, including accounting policy execution, close processes, journal entries, reconciliations, controls, reporting analytics, and audit support for revenue and A/R-related activities.
Support the short- to mid-term roadmap for revenue and A/R accounting capability, including operating model execution, process standardization, system integration, data quality, process automation, and control maturity.
Establish and maintain accounting governance for revenue recognition, customer contracts, billing, deductions, reserves, bad debt, cash and other revenue and receivables transactions.
Accountable for performance and results within the revenue and A/R accounting function, including timeliness, accuracy, control effectiveness, stakeholder experience, and issue resolution.
Lead senior professionals and shared service partners supporting global revenue accounting and accounts receivable operations.
What you'll be doing
Revenue and A/R Accounting Strategy and Governance
Define and execute the global revenue and A/R accounting operating model, including end-to-end process ownership and related T-account process flow mapping, approval thresholds, close activities, control points, service levels, and escalation routines.
Translate commercial, customer operations, and corporate accounting requirements into functional plans that strengthen standardization, data integrity, reporting quality, controls, and scalability.
Develop accounting playbooks for significant revenue and A/R activities, including customer contracts, revenue cut-off, variable consideration, reserves, deductions, credit memos, cash application, disputes, write-offs, and non-routine adjustments.
Establish governance forums with Commercial Finance, Customer Operations, Tax, Legal, FP&A, Regional Controllership, Shared Services, and IT to align processes, review complex activity, and resolve execution risks.
Close, Reporting, and Technical Accounting Execution
Oversee revenue and A/R-related month-end and quarter-end close activities, ensuring accurate journal entries, reconciliations, analytics, disclosure support, and management reporting. This includes maintaining best-in-class job aid and end-to-end accounting process flow documentation to ensure consistently reliable and accurate accounting close results.
Ensure appropriate accounting treatment for revenue recognition, accounts receivable, variable consideration, customer incentives, rebates, deductions, credit losses, bad debt reserves, cash application, and related balance sheet and income statement activity.
Partner with Technical Accounting to evaluate complex or non-routine revenue arrangements and document accounting conclusions, judgments, and controls.
Provide timely analysis of revenue and A/R results, unusual movements, aging trends, reserve activity, deductions, disputes, and balance sheet impacts to controllership and commercial finance leadership.
Controls, Audit, and Risk Management
Own SOX-aligned controls for revenue and A/R processes, including journal entry review, reconciliation quality, revenue cut-off, reserve review, credit memo governance, cash application controls, segregation of duties, data validation, and system interface controls.
Coordinate external audit requests related to revenue and A/R accounting, including PBC ownership, support quality, issue resolution, and follow-up actions.
Identify and resolve control gaps, recurring reconciliation issues, data quality defects, aging/dispute root causes, and process handoff risks across Commercial Finance, Customer Operations, Accounting, Shared Services, and IT.
Maintain clear governance over manual adjustments, recurring entries, estimates, reserves, deductions, credit memos, BlackLine reconciliations, system interfaces, and account ownership to reduce risk and improve close discipline.
Systems, Automation, and Data Quality
Partner with Commercial Finance, Customer Operations, Shared Services, and IT to improve integration among ERP, billing platforms, customer master data, cash application tools, BlackLine, consolidation tools, and reporting dashboards.
Lead automation and simplification efforts related to revenue close, A/R reconciliations, cash application, deductions, disputes, reserve calculations, billing-to-revenue handoffs, customer account clearing, and close analytics.
Define data ownership and quality routines for customer master data, contract attributes, billing and revenue attributes, deduction reason codes, reserve inputs, legal entity mappings, and reporting hierarchies.
Support system implementations, process transformations, acquisitions, divestitures, or legal entity changes by ensuring revenue accounting, A/R, BlackLine, data, and control requirements are built into the design.
Business Partnership and Influence
Advise finance and business leaders on accounting, reporting, and control implications of customer arrangements, commercial programs, billing practices, revenue trends, reserve activity, and A/R performance.
Influence Commercial Finance, Customer Operations, Tax, Legal, FP&A, regional leaders, and shared services to adopt standard revenue and A/R accounting processes and controls when priorities or local practices differ.
Provide clear updates to Corporate Accounting leadership, the Chief Accounting Officer, Commercial Finance, and other senior stakeholders on revenue and A/R accounting performance, risks, and improvement priorities.
Leadership Expectations
Build and develop a team with strong revenue accounting and A/R capability, clear ownership, a strong controls mindset, and practical business judgment.
Lead senior professionals and shared service partners by setting standards, clarifying priorities, and developing future controllership talent.
Create a culture of accuracy, accountability, partnership, transparency, and continuous improvement across Commercial Finance, Customer Operations, Accounting, Shared Services, and IT handoffs.
Operate as a senior accounting advisor who can balance technical revenue accounting precision with business speed, customer needs, and control expectations.
What you'll bring
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification strongly preferred.
10+ years of progressive accounting, controllership, revenue accounting, accounts receivable, technical accounting, audit, or financial reporting experience in a complex global company.
Experience leading senior professionals or shared service partners across close, reporting, controls, systems, revenue accounting, or A/R processes.
Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, revenue recognition, accounts receivable accounting, internal controls, reconciliations, close processes, financial statement presentation, and audit requirements.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex revenue and A/R accounting topics clearly and influence cross-functional decisions.
Experience in healthcare, medical technology, life sciences, manufacturing, or another regulated global environment.
Experience with revenue recognition, gross-to-net activity, customer rebates or incentives, deductions, disputes, bad debt reserves, credit memos, cash application, and A/R aging management.
Experience with ERP, billing systems, customer master data, cash application tools, BlackLine or other reconciliation tools, consolidation systems, and reporting dashboards.
Experience supporting public company controls, SOX requirements, and external audit cycles.
We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Vantive, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $160,000 to $220,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position is also eligible for a discretionary bonus.
